The Ultimate Guide to Folding Techniques

Proper folding not only saves space but also prevents wrinkles and makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Here are expert techniques for different garments:
T-Shirts
Lay the shirt face down. Fold in one-third of the shirt from the side, including the sleeve. Repeat on the other side. Then fold in half from bottom to top, and in half again if needed.
Dress Shirts
Button the shirt and lay it face down. Fold both sides toward the center with sleeves angled back. Fold the sleeves onto the back. Fold bottom up once or twice depending on desired size.
Pants and Jeans
Fold in half lengthwise with back pockets facing out. Fold in half from cuff to waistband, then in half again if needed.
Sweaters
Lay flat, fold arms across the body, then fold in half from bottom to top. For bulky sweaters, avoid folding in half a second time to prevent creases.
Socks
Lay one sock on top of the other. Fold the toe end up about two inches from the top. Roll tightly from the toe to the top, then tuck the cuff over the roll to secure.
Underwear
For briefs, fold in thirds. For boxers, fold in half lengthwise, then fold the waistband down to the bottom edge.
Consistent folding not only creates a neater drawer or closet but also makes it easier to see all your options at a glance.
